Oh the ‘Selfie‘ epidemic. . .
And that (super annoying) song that topped the charts in 2014.
And the selfie stick.
And the plethora of photo filters we now have at our fingertips to make our selfies ‘flawless’.
My mother hates the ‘selfie’ concept and I may have figured out why.
Mom has never been a fan of pictures of herself in general. She often proclaims soon after she sees a picture we’ve taken together that she may just cut herself out of it and it would then be perfect. Or my favorite, “That picture may disappear when you least expect it”. . . Much like an outfit or accessory she thinks I’ve worn one too many times, but that is a whole nother story.
She has gotten out of 99% of photo ops in my lifetime, but while I was under her roof I was expected to take 54,678,903 photos with her behind the lense, or at Olan Mills, or at Glamour Shots, or at school on picture day. And she still has every single one of them. Ask her, (and much to my dismay) she’ll show you.
Aha moment (and yes, that’s in the dictionary):
Maybe she doesn’t like selfies because she is UNselfish.
Ah hem…TODAY is the BIG day:
TODAY is your chance to be UNselfish this holiday season;
Your chance to be a Giver instead of a Taker.
“Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!” -Rosalind Russell
Side note: If I had a dollar for every time my mother said this to me, world hunger could quite possibly have been resolved a long time ago.
At any rate, (if you aren’t in the ‘most poor suckers’ category) join me in celebrating #GivingTuesday (and the $198 Vince Camuto, over the knee, riding boots I scored for $75 -$74.84 to be exact- on Black Friday via AmazonSmile) by donating to a cause you are passionate about. . .
Even if it’s a dull penny on tails you happen to find on the ground somewhere.
And while you’re at it, (let yourself) take a #UNSELFIE-and post to social media.
(But First,) I did. 📸😁
Chances are good, Mom will be making a donation to an organization or 7 today.
Chances are also VERY good that Mom will not be taking a #UNSELFIE.
We shall see.
